Summer Activities

All are free – some may be restricted by age

June 29 through August 20 – Kids Summer Reading Program.
Come in and sign up in the library or online from our website www.cohoespubliclibrary.org Promise to read a certain number of books (or have them read to you) and win a certificate and prizes at the end. For children ages birth to 18 years.

July 6 through August 28 – Adult Summer Reading Drawings
Enter our weekly drawings for a $10.00 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble. Read a book or listen to an audio book and fill in an entry slip for that title. One slip per title. Each week we will draw a name and notify the winner! For 18 years or older.

Wed. July 1 Reading with Rowdy
1:30 PM Join the River Rats Mascot Rowdy for a fun hour of stories and more! For pre-school and up.

Tues. July 7 Craft time- Sidewalk Fun
1:30 PM We supply the sidewalk chalk – you supply the talent! All are welcome! (*If it rains we will substitute Yarn People activities and do it next week.)

Wed. July 8 Story time /craft hour
1:30 PM Pre-school and up

Thurs. July 9 Learn to Crochet
10:00 AM 2nd grade and up. Hook and yarn will be supplied.

Thurs. July 9 Mime Rich Kuperberg
1:30 PM Come enjoy the mime performance of entertainer Rich Kuperberg. For all ages.

Tues. July 14 Craft time – Yarn People
1:30 PM We will be making dolls and other creatures out of yarn. All are welcome. (*Rain date for Sidewalk Fun)

Wed. July 15 Story time /craft hour
1:30 PM Pre-school and up

Thurs. July 16 Learn to Crochet
10:00 AM 2nd grade and up. Hook and yarn will be supplied.

Thurs. July 16 Singer Christopher Shaw
1:30 PM Come listen to Adirondack singer Chris Shaw as he sings the songs of New York State. All are welcome!

Tues July 21 Nature Detectives with Jaime
11:00 AM Join Jaime from Peebles Island State Park for an hour of nature tales and displays and crafts. For preschool and up!

Tues July 21 Tang Museum
1:30 PM The Tang Museum will present a fun craft program based on the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s discovery of the Hudson River. Come join them in this fun, educational and creative program. For 2nd grade and up. Due to limited supplies, this program will be limited to the first 20 children who show up.

1:30 PM Pre-school and up

Thurs. July 23 Learn to Knit
10:00 AM 2nd grade and up. Needles and yarn will be supplied.

Thurs. July 23 Magician Jim Snack
1:30 PM Come be amazed by the magic of internationally known magician Jim Snack. All are welcome!

Tues. July 28 Origami Boxes
1:30 PM 3rd grade and up. *Please note that we lowered the grade requirement for this program.

10:00 AM 2nd grade and up. Needles and yarn will be supplied.

1:30 PM Come enjoy the clowning antics of Victor Walters. All are welcome!

Tues. Aug 4 Weaving
1:30 PM Come learn the basics of weaving and create a bookmark, a woven heart basket and other woven items. For 3rd grade and up. *Please note that we lowered the grade requirement for this program.

Wed. Aug 5 Story time /craft hour
1:30 PM Pre-school and up

Thurs. Aug. 6 Learn to Knit
10:00 AM 2nd grade and up. Needles and yarn will be supplied.

Thurs. Aug. 6 Ventriloquist Steve Charney and Harry
1:30 PM Laugh with comic ventriloquist Steve and his dummy Harry! All are welcome. * Steve is sponsored by McDonald’s of Waterford.

Tues. Aug 11 Pipe Cleaner Animals
1:30 PM Learn how to make animals out of pipe cleaners. We’ll supply the pipe cleaners and directions or create your own! For all ages.

Wed. Aug 12 Story time /craft hour
1:30 PM Pre-school and up

Thurs. Aug 13 Cohoes Fire Department
1:30 PM Come meet the Fire Fighters and learn about their equipment and sit in their truck! For all ages.

Tues. Aug 18 Nature Detectives with Jaime
11:00 AM Join Jaime from Peebles Island State Park for an hour of nature tales and displays and crafts. For preschool and up!

Tues. Aug 18 T-Shirt Bags
1:30 PM We will have t-shirts and fabric paints and a sewing machine to make bags out of t-shirts. We also have some donated t-shirts or bring an old one of your own. This program will be limited to the first 15 who show up or as long as supplies last. This is for 3rd grade and up. *Please note that we lowered the grade requirement for this program.

Thurs. Aug 20 Summer Reading Program Awards Ceremony!
11:00 AM You read your books – now come for the award certificate and prizes! Cake and juice will be served. All who qualified are welcome. A great way to end the summer!
