Don’t forget the 4 days straight of story time for kids K-5th grade from Monday, 4/17-Thursday, 4/20.  We have a great schedule of local school teachers and principals volunteering their time to come down and read to kids. Our star lineup includes:

Photography Club Formation

Old pro, amateur, new to photography? By popular request, on April 10 at 6 pm, local photographer Dave Koschnick will hold a meeting at the Cohoes Public Library to discuss the creation of a Photography Club. What you would like to get out of a photography club? How often should the club meet? Should it offer an opportunity to have your work critiqued with the goal of improving your work? Should it have regular (i.e. monthly) photo challenges? Should it have regular member shows? Join the new group to help determine its course. Updates on

ACAP Hosting open enrollment and Q & A session for Head Start at the Library!

Come to the Library on Tuesday, April 18th between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm to hear representatives of Head Start discuss their program’s curriculum, policies and registration process. This is for children of 3 and 4 years of age. Don’t forget, at that same time Van Schaick’s Grade School Principal Jacqueline DeChiaro will be hosting a story time for kids K through 5th grade.

The Cohoes Public Library celebrates National Library Week!

We have some great programming coming up to celebrate April’s National Library!

Come on down on Tuesday, April 11th at 11:30, and meet Cohoes’ own Mayor, Shawn Morse, as he opens the week by proclaiming it National Library week. We’ll have a quick ceremony afterwards where we thank our Library staff for all of their hard work.

On Wednesday, April 12th, the Beauknitters club are offering free help and instruction from 12 noon to 3 pm for those who would like to knit. Local author Herb Hyde will be in at 6:30 pm to talk about his writing and Cohoes as well.

Our feistivities continue on Friday, April 14th at 10:30 am when Jack Reber, author of Eerie Canal, will be here to speak about the Erie Canal and sing songs previously sung on the canal boats.

Throughout the week we’ll have a food drive open to support Cohoes’ local food pantries and the Spindle City Historic Society will have a display celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal.

Mystery Book Club for Wednesday, March 15 will be cancelled. The book, “The Monogram Murders” will be discussed at the April meeting. Next book, “The Easter Bunny Murder” by Leslie Meier. Remember – if the Cohoes Schools are delayed or closed due to weather, the Club will be cancelled.
