* Mystery Book ClubMystery Book Club

Time: 10:30 am

In a departure from the normal mysteries, the Mystery Book Club will be exploring a real-life mystery with “Conan Doyle for the Defense: The True Story of a Sensational British Murder, a Quest for Justice, and the World’s Most Famous Detective Writer” by Margalit Fox. In 1908, Marion Gilchrist was murdered in her home. The police focused on a German expat, Oscar Slater, and he was easily convicted. Slater’s attorneys reached out to Doyle and he set about demonstrating the skills that he gave to his fictional detective. Join the book club on 3/20 at 10:30 am to share your thoughts on this interesting case.

* Battle of BenningtonBattle of Bennington

Time: 6:00 pm

On March 25, at 6 pm, join David Pitlyk at the Cohoes Public Library as he takes us back to the summer of 1777 when British General Burgoyne threatens to capture Albany. Mr. Pitlyk has been a NYS Park Site Assistant at the Bennington Battlefield since 2015. Drawing from a variety of sources, he helps us travel back to the victory of Bennington that paved the way to a Colonial victory at the Battle of Saratoga and eventually to a win of the Revolutionary War itself. This presentation is free and open to the public. Additional info at www.CohoesPublicLibrary.org.
